HOW TO START A GROCERIES/PROVISION STORE BUSINESS

I was tempted to open my own provision store today when I realized how much I had spent today alone on a nearby provision shop at my area. I have always known provision store is a good money making business but I felt it was for women alone. I was totally wrong!

This business is easy to run and customers are readily available as much as you have what they are demanding daily. I will tell you how to open this business in this article and all that you need to get it started.

The basic thing you need to know about this business is that it involves you buying goods/groceries in wholesale and selling it to consumers. Don’t get worried, this business requires only a little capital and a rented shop. Don’t mistake this business for a supermarket because that’s different.

PROVISIONS YOU WILL BE SELLING
You are going to be selling basic household stuffs like toiletries, bathing soap, sugar, cereal, custard, groundnut, rice, beans, detergents, beverages etc.

This business is a hassle free business as all you need do is sit in your shop and wait for customers who want to patronize you. There are customers readily available because not everybody can stuck their homes in bulk.

Even those who buy in bulk would still patronize you when they need something they don’t have at home. So why not make it convenient for people to do local shopping and start making money?

WHAT DO I NEED TO START THIS BUSINESS?
There are some important things you need to know before you venture into this business so you don’t end up being stranded along the line.

Firstly, do a feasibility study and find out the products that are in high demand in your location. When you have done this and you have found out the product then the next thing is to get a shop.

RENT A SHOP: Ensure the shop you want to rent is spacious and accessible so that customers can see the goods you are displaying. You don’t really need to break the bank to get a good sizeable shop, but be modest.

GET SHELVES: You need shelves to display your products so as to avail customers the opportunity to pick what they want by themselves. Please ensure you make quality shelves so that pests and ants would not invade your shop.

Get table and chairs if you plan on selling drinks as well because customers like chilling around sometimes. Don’t leave a customer who wants to sit standing.

It is very possible that your provision shop turns into a supermarket or even a mall, besides SLOTNG started from a single room shop at computer village. All you need is good customer service and relation and your shop will expand in no distant time.

INVESTMENT PLAN
You will need about N40,000 to N60,000 for shop rent.
You will spend about N30,000 on shelve.
Tables and chairs may take like N10,000.
Then you can stuck your shop with about N100,000 for a start depends on your capital though.
Hope this was helpful?
